Morpho-Physiological and Antioxidative Responses of Wheat Seedlings to Different Forms of Selenium

چکیده

Selenium (Se) deficiency in human and animal nutrition is primarily due to low levels of Se soils. It can be prevented by enriching crops, such as wheat, with through agronomic biofortification. Although not essential for plants, it shows a dual effect on their metabolism depending its concentration. This study aimed elucidate the impact five different concentrations (0.4, 4, 20, 40, 400 mg/kg) selenate selenite oxidative status antioxidative response wheat (Triticum aestivum L., cv. Kraljica) shoots roots. According morpho-physiological analyses, was found have lower toxicity threshold than selenate. The measurement stress biomarkers showed that did cause damage seedlings activation detoxification mechanisms at biochemical level, which depended type tissue, concentration, form applied Se. Treatment 20 mg/kg recommended seedling biofortification sufficient increase accumulation without signs toxicity. These results contribute better understanding seedlings’ physiological responses development more effective strategies.

Morpho-physiological responses in Alnus subcordata and Acer velutinum seedlings to drought stress

In this study, the effect of drought stress on morphological and physiological characteristics of two forest species: Alnus subcordata and Acer velutinum, which are used in natural forest restoration and afforestation, was evaluated. A factorial experiment was conducted based on a completely randomized design with two factors (two species and four levels of drought stress: (25% (severe stress),...

Antioxidative Responses of Eucalyptus camaldulensis to Different Concentrations of Copper

Anthropogenic activities have caused important increases in soil Cu levels not only in urban areas but also in croplands. This study was designed to find out the effect of different concentration of copper on physiological and biochemical changes in Eucalyptus camaldulensis seedlings. Seeds of Eucalyptus camaldulensis were grown in marble chips and irrigated with nutrient solution mixed with co...

Physiological and Antioxidative Responses of a Halophytic Grass Leptochloa fusca L. Kunth (Kallar grass) to Salinity

The effects of salt stress on growth and some physiological parameters of halophytic plant, Leptochloa fusca L. Kunth, were investigated. The seedlings were irrigated with half-strength Hoagland solution and then treated with different concentrations of NaCl (0, 100, 300, 500 and 700 mM) for 15 days. The fresh and dry weights of both root and shoot were unchanged at 100 mM NaCl and decreased at...
